Great Decisions Progrm at the Laurel LibraryTuesdays - January 19 - April 6, 2010 (except the last Tuesday of each month) Looking for information and discussion on eight current foreign policy issues topics and a chance to add your opinions to a national report sent to decision-makers? If so, call the Laurel branch library at 301-776-6790 to sign up for Great Decisions 2010. Beginning Tuesday, January 19, at 7:30 p.m., in the Laurel branch meeting room, attendees will watch a half hour informational video, discuss readings prepared by the Foreign Policy Association, and complete opinion ballots. She's Not In Your History Book - A Story Hour for Grown-Ups on March 15, 2010Celebrate Women's History Month with members of BPW of Laurel and Southern Prince George's and the Bowie-Crofton Soroptimists at the Bowie Center for the Performing Arts starting at 6:30 with a light supper. Joy Jones, a trainer, author storyteller and communicator, will tell us stories about African and African American women from antiquity to contemporary times who are noteworthy women who aren't in your history book. The cost of the event is $30. Any profit will be divided between the four groups. Flyer with registration request.
The Laurel Branch of AAUWWho We Are The Laurel Branch of AAUW was formed in 1953. Throughout its history, the Branch has been active in the community. It started an adult education program at Laurel High School. In 1996, the branch was a co-founding organizational sponsor of the Friends of the Laurel Library. The Branch sponsors the Margaret Myerly Award which is given annually to a graduating senior at Laurel High School. It was established in memory of Margaret Myerly, an active member of AAUW, who taught math at Laurel High School for 40 years. The first award was given to Christopher Charles Prestel in 1983. The National Association and Maryland AAUW have recognized the Laurel Branch for the dedication and achievement of branch members and its strong commitment to accomplishing the AAUW mission of education and equity for all women and girls. 2009 -2010 CalendarThe following events are planned for 2009-2010. Check back for updates and additions. Unless otherwise noted, branch meetings are held at 7:30 PM at Morningside House , 7700 Cherry Lane in Laurel. Saturday, September 26, 2009, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm - Our branch is hosting the AAUW Maryland meeting at Greenbelt Library. An exciting program devoted to health care is planned. Tuesday, October 20, 209, 7:30 pm - Branch meeting at Morningside House. The topic is the role of women in African Moslem Society Tuesday, December 8, 2009, 7:30 pm - Branch meeting at Jan Lofutus's home. It will be our annual holiday cookie exchange.
